This weekend was the five-year anniversary sale at HD Buttercup, one of my favorite-est places in the whole wide world. (And it's also attached to LA's brand new Room and Board store, so a visit there is always a must as well.) You may recall my
last foray to the stores, in which I believed I had located our future nightstand, but alas that search is still ongoing.
Occupying a huge, old bakery building, HD Buttercup is a magical place, filled with furniture, lighting and accessories from a whole range of retailers, and at an astonishingly broad range of prices from reasonable to slap-your-momma-expensive.
But on to the great stuff!
Vintage Danish side tables (possible nightstands??), at extremely reasonable prices for their great condition
The only problem is I really want white or at least whitewashed nightstands, and I don't think I could bear to strip the gorgeous finish off these vintage tables. If only someone could make some reproductions so that I could sully them with no remorse.
My dream office gear... classic bombe and cabriolet style desk and sideboard, in modern white paint and lacquer... sadly, neither was on sale, as if we have the space for them
I had just been looking at these exact pieces in the Chiasso catalog, but Buttercup's sale prices were much better
Totally impractical but super cheerful purple pieces, in great, classic shapes... maybe when Mark gets his man cave, I can put one of these purple leather armchairs in my arts and crafts room (the condition for him getting a man cave, of course)
A very expensive way to jump the shark
Cool Tom Filicia collection nightstand... much bigger than it looks in the photo, and a bit steep at $1200 (that would be $1200 each)
This lamp makes me think of Jenn
I looooooove this giant, round leather ottoman as a coffee table/extra seating/foot rest
On to Room and Board, right next door.
Great outdoor furniture
How can you not love a store that provides a full selection of coffee and teas, for free?
The world's least La-Z-Boy-looking recliner, and therefore acceptable for Mark's future man cave
Jenn, I think I found your ideal barstools... no slipping off of these bad boys
So many nice nightstands, just none in the lighter finishes (even maple is too dark for what I'm going for)
I love this big square table, and I even like the benches, since you'd have to be seating more than four to even use the benches
If I can't have a big, white, cabriolet-leg desk, then I'd love something like this... the drawer makes it more practical than CB2's version
Mental note: If we ever have kids or decorate a daycare, these miniature ghost chairs are amazing
None of these pretty items came home with me, but it's always worthwhile to get the inspiration. Lots of these things will give me ideas to ponder as our never-ending home design continues.
